Rinna has tried her whole life to claw her way to belonging among her people and failed. Her only light is Kimo, her soul-bonded wolf.

When Rinna is ripped away from Kimo and her home by a Draugr, a soul-devouring creature, because of her Vala blood and her bond with Kimo, she must make a treacherous escape to keep Kimo safe from the Draugr’s clutches, But she finds herself seized once more, this time by her clan’s mortal enemies, the Megin.

The Megin’s own Vala takes Rinna in, but Rinna is distrusting, and only accepts her help when the Draugr takes her father, the only person who ever accepted her for who she is.

Rinna must not only learn to trust the Megin—including the cold, blue-eyed Fainn—but rely on them if she and Kimo are going to be reunited—and survive the Draugrs that hunt them.
